Ricky Williams does not support Johnny Manziel
Johnny Manziel has been a polarizing figure since news broke about the NCAA investigation into whether the Texas A&M quarterback took money in exchange for autographs.
Many have come forward in support of Manziel. Vikings running back Adrian Peterson shared he thought collegiate players should be allowed to profit off the use of their names. Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant blasted the NCAA and said he didn’t want Manziel to get suspended. Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers expressed his sympathies for the intense spotlight and scrutiny surrounding Johnny Football.
But for every supporter, there is a hater. And Johnny Manziel never has had a shortage of haters, even before the investigation was announced.
Fellow Heisman Trophy winner Ricky Williams, and no stranger to controversy, falls in the later category.
“You know once you win the Heisman trophy, there’s going to be more attention on you,” Williams said at a press conference introducing him as the new running backs coach at the University of the Incarnate Word. “You are probably not going to be able to get away with all the stuff you got away with before. To the media I would say, if the media did their research on who this kid was, nobody would be surprised.”
Ouch. Pretty harsh words from the former Texas Longhorn. Though it seems Williams has never really been a fan of Manziel. He revealed back in February he had Manziel second in the Heisman race.
