Olympian Michael Phelps to appear behind ASU’s ‘Curtain of Distraction’
Arizona State’s "Curtain of Distraction" has attracted worldwide notice for the antics of a select group of Sun Devil fans stationed along the baseline of Wells Fargo Arena for the express purpose of distracting opposing free-throw shooters.
But the notoriety should be ratcheted up to new levels for Thursday night’s game against Oregon State as the most decorated athlete in Olympic history makes a curtain call.
Eigthteen-time gold-medal-winning swimmer Michael Phelps, currently training in Tempe for the Summer Olympics in Brazil, apparently has promised to make an appearance with the curtain crew.

Phelps is training under longtime personal coach Bob Bowman, who is in his first season as ASU’s swimming coach. He recently announced his intention to join Bowman’s staff at ASU as an assistant coach.
