NAU volleyball vying to host Big Sky tournament

The Northern Arizona volleyball team concludes its regular season this week with a pair of home matches that will be televised on FOX Sports Arizona Plus and FOX Sports Arizona.

The week begins with a crucial match at 7 p.m. Thursday vs. North Dakota that could determine the host site for the Big Sky Conference tournament. The match will be televised live on FOX Sports Arizona Plus and FOX Sports GO. The Lumberjacks (21-6, 11-3) are tied for first place in the South Division with Sacramento State, while North Dakota (21-9, 12-2) leads the North Division and is currently in position to host the conference tournament based on a superior conference record. North Dakota has a six-match winning streak.

The regular season concludes with a Senior Day showdown against Southern Utah (4-22, 2-12) at 2 p.m. Saturday. It can be seen live on FOX Sports Arizona and FOX Sports GO.

NAU split a pair of road matches last week — sweeping Weber State and losing to Idaho State in five sets. But the Lumberjacks haven't lost on their home court since Oct. 30, 2014 — a span of 25 matches. NAU swept North Dakota last year in Flagstaff and is 5-1 all-time against the Fighting Hawks.

“Thursday is a big match, it may be the biggest match of the year in our conference, and our girls are excited to play in it,” NAU coach Ken Murphy said. “North Dakota is playing so well and we understand the ramifications of this match, but we're using this week to prep for next week.”

The Lumberjacks lead the Big Sky with a hitting percentage of .261. Senior Lauren Jacobsen leads the team in kills (4.07 per set) and digs (3.48).

North Dakota is third in the Big Sky in hitting percentage (.223) and second in blocks (2.61 per set). Faith Dooley leads the Big Sky with 1.44 blocks per set.

Jacobsen will be one of three seniors honored on Saturday, along with Jensen Barton and Addy Lofstedt.
