Lumberjacks travel to South Dakota before Big Sky play

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — No. 22 Northern Arizona will head to South Dakota to play the Coyotes on Saturday. Kickoff at the DakotaDome is slated for noon.

NAU was voted No. 23 in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 Poll released Monday. The Lumberjacks also earned a No. 22 ranking in the FCS Coaches’ Poll, and a No. 21 spot in the College Sports Madness Weekly Poll. NAU is 2-1 heading into its final nonconference game.

The Lumberjacks posted 62 points in its win over New Mexico Highlands last week. It was the most points scored at home since a 62-14 win over Portland State in 2010.

Junior quarterback Kyren Poe has completed 60-of-93 passes with one interception through three games. He’s thrown for 722 yards and four touchdowns. Poe has also rushed for 59 yards and one touchdown. Poe ranks fourth in the Big Sky in passing yards per game with an 240.7 average. Austin Hasquet leads the Lumberjacks with 24 tackles, while junior safety Eddie Horn has 20 tackles and two interceptions. NAU is averaging 32.0 points and 444 yards per game.

Led by head coach Joe Glenn, South Dakota is 1-2 so far this season. The Coyotes earned a 41-16 win over William Penn in Week 2.

USD dropped a 28-20 decision to fellow Big Sky foe Montana last weekend. The Coyotes have yet to record a sack this season, but have allowed 10 for a loss of 66 yards. Quarterback Ryan Saegar leads the Coyotes with 356 passing yards and one touchdown.
