Margarito to have facial surgery in Texas Tuesday after Pacquiao beating

Antonio Margarito remains in a Dallas hospital after suffering a broken orbital bone in his right eye during his fight with Manny Pacquiao at Cowboys Stadium.

Margarito will have surgery in Texas on Tuesday to repair the damaged eye, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told The Associated Press on Sunday.

Margarito was taken by ambulance to a hospital on Saturday night immediately after he lost a lopsided decision for the WBC super welterweight title.

The swelling of his right eye was so great in the later rounds that Pacquiao continuously looked to the ref to stop the fight in the 11th.

Pacquiao admitted after the fight he eased up on Margarito in the 12th round.

“I told the referee, ‘Look at his eyes, look at his cuts,’ ” said Pacquiao, who improved to 52-3-2 with 38 knockouts. “I did not want to damage him permanently. That’s not what boxing is about.”
