Longhorns D propels victory over Red Raiders

Texas’ offense appears to have a long way to go after Saturday’s effort in Texas’s 24-14 victory over Texas Tech.

But if Saturday’s defensive output was any indication, the offense might not have to do much for the Longhorns to have a highly successful season.

The Longhorns sacked Red Raider quarterbacks Taylor Potts and Steven Sheffield four times, with all four coming from defensive linemen. The linebackers eliminated any holes for Tech running backs to run through. And the defensive backs picked off two passes, broke up another six and allowed a typically high-percentage passing offense to complete just 58 percent of its throws.

Indeed, the defense excelled at all phases of the game, which led Texas coach Mack Brown to call the effort
