Freshman leads ASU women past No. 15 Cal
TEMPE, Ariz. – Freshman Quinn Dornstauder scored a career-high 13 points and provided an early burst of energy off the bench to lead the 19th-ranked Arizona State womenâs basketball team past No. 15 California, 68-59, Friday at Wells Fargo Arena.
The Sun Devils remained perfect at home (9-0) and beat their third top-25 opponent of the year to improve their record to 15-2 on the season and 4-1 in Pac-12 Conference games. Cal falls to 12-4 overall and 4-1 in conference, and its 19-game regular-season conference winning streak was snapped.
In addition to Dornstauder’s career day, Promise Amukamara (11 points) and Deja Mann (10) also scored in double-figures. Sophie Brunner had a team-high eight rebounds to go with five points and four assists.
Cal jumped out to a 38-34 lead early in the second half, but the Sun Devils took control with a 15-2 run to go up by nine. The Bears never got closer than five the rest of the way.
The Sun Devils will now turn their attention to a showdown against the No. 4 Stanford Cardinal on Monday at 5 p.m. MT.
