The Diamondbacks have extended manager Chip Hale’s contract through at least 2017.

The news was first reported Thursday by FOXSports.com baseball insider Jon Morosi.

Hale’s original contract upon being hired was for two guaranteed seasons (2015-16) with a team option for 2017.

The extension would presumably guarantee Hale’s contract through a third season, with perhaps additional years or options included.

Hale had a 79-83 record in his first season at the helm, a 15-win improvement over the previous season.
