Contreras among 3 Rangers sign to minor-league deals

Veteran right-hander Jose Contreras, who has thrown just 32 2/3 innings in the majors over the last three years, was one of three players the Texas Rangers signed Thursday to minor-league deals.

Contreras, right-hander Nate Adcock and outfielder Bryan Petersen will go to spring training with the Rangers.

Contreras, who turns 42 Friday, has 78 wins in his major-league career. The Cuban made his debut with the New York Yankees in 2003. He split the 2013 season between the Pittsburgh and Boston organizations. He made seven appearances for the Pirates in May.

Adcock spent the season with the Kansas City and Arizona organizations. He pitched in the majors in 2011 and 2012, going 1-4 with a 3.79 ERA in 36 games for the Royals.

Petersen played parts of three seasons playing for the Miami Marlins. He spent the entire 2013 season in Triple A.
