ASU QB Mike Bercovici named Pac-12’s top scholar-athlete

Mike Bercovici has accounted for 32 touchdowns this season while excelling as a graduate student in ASU's Master's of Sports Law and Business program.

Arizona State and Arizona were shut out of first-team selections on the All-Pac-12 football team, but ASU picked up one of the conference’s top honors with the naming of senior quarterback Mike Bercovici as Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Bercovici, a fifth-year graduate student, graduated with a BS in business management in three years at ASU and has a 3.67 combined GPA while enrolled in the Master’s of Sports Law and Business program. On the field, he’s passed for 3,437 yards and 26 touchdowns and also run for six TDs.

The Pac-12’s other top award winners are:

–Offensive Player of the Year: Stanford sophomore running back Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey a first-team selection at both running back and return specialist, has amassed a Pac-12 single-season record 3,035 all-purpose yards while also recording nine consecutive 100-yard rushing games. He established several school records, including 243 rushing yards vs. UCLA and 389 all-purpose yards vs. California.

–Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year: Oregon senior defensive end DeForest Buckner. Buckner has recorded 76 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks.

–Freshman Offensive Player of the Year: UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen.

–Freshman Defensive player of the Year: USC linebacker Cameron Smith.

–Co-coaches of the year: Washington State’s Mike Leach and Stanford’s David Shaw.
