10 ejected in D-backs, Dodgers Triple-A brawl

Ten players and coaches were ejected Saturday night after the Triple-A affiliates for the Diamondbacks (Reno Aces) and Dodgers (Albuquerque Isotopes) engaged in a bench-clearing brawl that delayed the game 30 minutes and was kept out of the stands by only the netting behind home plate.

Tempers flared in the second inning when Aces pitcher Mike Bolsinger threw up and in to Isotopes shortstop Erisbel Arruebarrena, who had to duck out of the way, as the pitch hit his bat for a foul ball. Arruebarrena hit a three-run homer Friday night and took his time rounding the bases — so much so Aces play-by-play man Ryan Radtke called him out on the air.

Benches cleared after the high-and-tight pitch but no punches were thrown and Arruebarrena continued his at-bat.

Arruebarrena eventually struck out and catcher Blake Lalli brushed him as he threw to third. Arruebarrena did not like that. So he shoved the catcher — that was the first of the 10 ejections — and then things go interesting.

Reno’s Mike Jacobs charged Arruebarrena, who threw his helmet at the first baseman.

"The whole Aces team is chasing Arruebarrena," the announcer exclaimed. "We got a a full on melee here at Aces Ballpark."

And here is an up-close video a fan sitting those front-row seats behind home plate submitted to the Reno Gazette-Journal:

When the dust settled, Arruebarrena, Lalli, Jacobs and Reno manager Phil Nevin were among the 10 ejected. Here is what the ejections report looked like in the box score:

Additional fines/suspensions are sure to follow for some of those punches that were clearly thrown.

Oh, the Aces eventually won 7-3.

UPDATE: Here is video of the entire Arruebarrena at-bat, including the first pitch that narrowly missed his head.
