Brewers starting pitcher Zach Davies
The undersized (listed at 155 pounds) 23-year-old Davies starred at Mesquite High School in Gilbert and turned down a scholarship from ASU to sign with Baltimore as a 26th-round draft pick. . . . He's been a huge surprise since taking a permanent place in the Brewers rotation in mid-April. He's limited the opposition to 7 hits and 1 run over 13 1/3 innings in his two starts since the All-Star break and is 5-1 with a 2.35 ERA in 9 starts since the start of June. . . . The Brewers acquired Davies a year ago in a trade-deadline deal that sent Gerardo Parra to the Orioles.

Good things come in pairs
Yasmany Tomas' 2 homers in Wednesday's victory was his 5th multi-homer game of the season, tying him with Mark Trumbo for the most in the major leagues. . . . Tomas is up to 17 home runs on the season in 347 plate appearances, nearly doubling his total of 9 from his rookie year in 426 plate appearances. . . . He's 9 for 24 on the road trip with 4 homers and 8 RBI, and for the season he's hitting .302 on the road with 14 of his 17 home runs.
Up next: On to Los Angeles
The D-backs' 3-city, 3-time-zone road trip moves on to Los Angeles for 3 games against the Dodgers starting Friday, with Zack Godley pitching against Kenta Maeda. . . . Outfielder David Peralta is scheduled to rejoin the team following completion of his rehab assignment for a lower back sprain.
