D-backs (38-49) at Giants (54-33), 6 pm., FOX Sports Arizona
Today's starting pitchers: Patrick Corbin (4-6, 4.90) vs. RHP Jeff Samardzija (8-5,3.97). Storylines: The Diamondbacks look to continue their mysterious success when playing on the road. Despite being 11 games under .500, they are 23-17 away from home, and that includes a 4-game sweep of the Giants at AT&T Park in mid-April. Take away those four games and the Giants are 26-13 in their home park. The D-backs are 12-2 at AT&T over the past 2 seasons. ... This is a rematch of Saturday's pitching matchup at Chase Field. The D-backs won that one 6-5, though neither starting pitcher got a decision. Watch: 6 p.m., FOX Sports Arizona and FOX Sports GO.
D-backs starting pitcher Patrick Corbin
Corbin, like most of the D-backs pitchers, has been significantly more successful on the road: 4-1 with a 3.46 ERA and .250 opponent's batting average in 9 starts. He gave up 5 hits and 5 runs (but only 2 earned) in 5 1/3 innings against the Giants on Saturday. The Giants did get to him for 2 home runs, running his season total to 17 -- tied for 4th most in the NL. He's 4-4 with a 3.47 ERA in 13 career starts against the Giants and 1-2 with a 4.45 ERA in 5 starts at AT&T Park.

Giants starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija
Samardzija is 1-3 with a 6.52 ERA over his last 7 starts. He pitched 7 1/3 innings against the D-backs on Saturday, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs while not walking a batter and was in line for the victory until the D-backs rallied against the San Francisco bullpen. Michael Bourn is 9 for 20 (.450) in his career against Samardzija, but Paul Goldschmidt is just 2 for 18 (.111).

Short-handed, but standing tall
The Giants have surpassed the Cubs with the best record in baseball, and they've done it while playing without four of their regular starters. Outfielders Hunter Pence and Denard Span, second baseman Joe Panik and third baseman Matt Duffy have all missed big chunks of time, although Span (neck) is expected to be back this weekend. All-Star Buster Posey, should-be All-Star Brandon Crawford and Brandon Belt have been their usual selves in picking up the slack, but the Giants have also gotten key contributions from the likes of Conor Gillespie, Ramiro Pena, Grant Green and Jarrett Parker. Gillespie is 11 for his last 26 at-bats (.423); Pena is 14 for his last 34 (.412).

D-backs third baseman Jake Lamb (20 homers 61 RBI, .293) and Giants first baseman Brandon Belt (10, 46, .300) were both among the five candidates in the Final Vote for the NL All-Star team, and Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford has a pretty good argument himself. His 55 RBI are tied with Colorado's Trevor Story for the most of any shortstop, and he leads all NL players and is second in baseball with 18 Defensive Runs Saved. (Nick Ahmed is tied for fourth in the NL with 11.) Thirteen of Crawford's RBI have come in his last 10 games.
