It was clear after Braun Strowman appeared on Raw last week in a sling and was brutally attacked by a battered Roman Reigns that he would likely be out of action for the near future, and WWE delivered the devastating news on Monday.
Strowman - who was in the middle of the best run of anyone in the company in 2017, aside from Reigns, and had become one of the faces of Raw - will miss up to six months after undergoing surgery.
"Following the medical consultation, Strowman underwent surgery on Thursday in Birmingham, Ala. with Dr. Jeffrey Dugas. During the procedure, it was revealed, among his other injuries, that Strowman's elbow had been shattered, and he is expected to miss up to six months of action as a result."
The injury will almost certainly keep Strowman out of SummerSlam in August, and is a huge blow to Raw on a week-to-week basis.
Instead of focusing Raw on what would have been Summer of Strowman, WWE will likely have to fill the void with an elevated Intercontinental Championship feud - especially with Universal Champion Brock Lesnar only working on a part-time basis.
