Brewers' Keon Broxton brings pop to bottom of lineup

Published May. 25, 2017 3:38 p.m. ET

With Ryan Braun and Eric Thames ailing, the Milwaukee Brewers have had to look elsewhere for offense over the last few weeks.

Fortunately for manager Craig Counsell, outfielder Keon Broxton is bringing some pop to the bottom of the Brewers' lineup.

After struggling to a .191/.276/.324 slash line in April, Broxton has been on fire over the last month, hitting out of the No. 7 spot and raising season average all the way to .271 after batting .347/.382/.611 from May 1-24.

It's the largest such improvement in the league over the last month.

Player Team April May Diff.
Devon Travis Blue Jays .130 .351 .221
Robinson Cano Mariners .252 .436 .184
Keon Broxton Brewers .191 .347 .156
Domingo Santana Brewers .197 .343 .146
Brett Gardner Yankees .205 .351 .146

Domingo Santana isn't far behind.

The Brewers' No. 5 hitter has a .343/.436/.433 slash line this month after connecting for a three-run homer Wednesday in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.

They'll look to keep starting pitcher Zach Davies' six-game unbeaten streak alive Thursday.

Davies' last six starts have led to wins for the Brewers, the second-longest streak in the majors behind Dallas Keuchel of the Houston Astros.

Zach Davies Brewers 6 04/20/17
