MILWAUKEE — After six weeks on the shelf following a bizarre hand injury, Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy will begin a rehab assignment with the Class-A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers this Thursday, the team announced on Monday.
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said on Monday, before the announcement, that Appleton — where the Timber Rattlers play — would be an ideal spot for the rehab assignment, considering Lucroy could be the designated hitter. Roenicke also mentioned that Lucroy could get a few games in at Triple-A Nashville before returning full-time to Milwaukee.
Lucroy said last week that he had hoped a weekend rehab assignment was a possibility, and Brewers manager Ron Roenicke has explained on multiple occasions that he has progressed faster than expected.
And now, it appears Lucroy will be back in a Brewers uniform within the next week or two, a welcomed sign during one of the most important stretches of the team’s season.
Before his injury, Lucroy was one of the hottest hitters in baseball, batting .345 with five home runs and 30 RBI.
