MILWAUKEE -- Three days after being suddenly fired as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, Larry Drew issued a statement through the team, thanking the fans for their support and briefly addressing his termination.
Here's the full statement, sent out by the Bucks on behalf of Drew:
"I would like to thank Senator Herb Kohl and John Hammond for giving me the opportunity to coach the Milwaukee Bucks this past season. Although my tenure was brief, it will forever be memorable.
"Thank you to all of the great Bucks fans for your love and support, you truly are some of the best fans in the NBA.
"My swift termination did come as a surprise to me, but I accept new owners Wesley Edens' and Marc Lasry's decision that they've made. I wish the entire Bucks organization and the great city of Milwaukee nothing but the best in the future."
Drew spoke to the media on draft night and was front and center at Jabari Parker's introductory press conference last Friday. Lasry and Edens met with new head coach Jason Kidd on the night of the draft and began negotiating compensation with the Brooklyn Nets shortly thereafter.
The Bucks officially fired Drew, who went 15-67 in his one season as head coach in Milwaukee, on Monday evening. Kidd was announced as his replacement early Tuesday morning and was introduced in a press conference Wednesday.
