Brewers sign Asencio to minor league deal

The Milwaukee Brewers announced Monday that they've signed reliever Jairo Ascencio to a minor league contract with an invitation to big league camp.

The 28-year-old Dominican right-hander spent 2012 with the Cleveland Indians and the Chicago Cubs. Ascencio went  1-1 with a 4.91 earned run average in 30 games.

Traded to the Indians by Atlanta in March, Ascencio had a 5.96 ERA in 25 2/3 innings before being designated for assignment on May 28.

The Cubs claimed Ascencio off waivers on Jun. 1 and he had more success in Chicago, posting a 3.07 ERA in 14 2/3 innings.
