Badgers hockey falls, 2-1, to NMU

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Junior forward Michael Mersch tallied a power-play goal, but it went for naught as the Wisconsin men’s hockey squad dropped a 2-1 decision Friday at the hands of Northern Michigan.

Northern Michigan’s Cohen Adair put his club up for good midway through the third period, as he hammered home a power-play goal. Northern Michigan also got a goal from Reed Seckel.

Mark Zengerle notched an assist for the Badgers, now 0-1-0 on the young season. Netminder Joel Rumpel recorded 19 saves for Wisconsin.

An announced crowd of 3,176 took in this season-opening contest, at Green Bay’s Resch Center.
