A’s claim Brewers’ Stinson off waivers

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee Brewers right-handed pitcher Josh Stinson has been claimed off waivers by Oakland.
Milwaukee tried to pass Stinson through waivers to open up a spot on the 40-man roster, but the gamble didn’t pay off.
Right-handers Alfredo Figaro, Donovan Hand and catcher Blake Lalli all are competing for the final spots in the bullpen and on the bench, but none of the three are on the 40-man roster.
Stinson, 25, appeared in six games in September for the Brewers, posting a 0.96 ERA in 9 1/3 innings.
Claimed off waivers from the Mets last April, Stinson went 11-9 with a 3.16 ERA in 24 starts for Double-A Huntsville in 2012.
Stinson had a 1.50 ERA in 12 spring training innings and was sent to minor league camp March 23.
