Report: Player’s dad dies after charity game

A charity basketball game in Georgia on Saturday turned tragic for Detroit Lions defensive tackle Andre Fluellen.

According to a report in the Cartersville Daily Tribune News, Fluellen’s father, Rev. Charles Fluellen, died of an apparent heart attack after participating in the local “Pastors vs. Politicians” basketball game. The fundraiser pitted Cartersville community ministers against local politicians.

The paper reported that Rev. Fluellen complained of chest pains and lost consciousness during the game and was later pronounced dead at Cartersville Medical Center.

The Rev. Fluellen, 57, was director of the Bartow County Transit Department and pastor of Glory Harvester Church.

Andre Fluellen, drafted in the third round in 2008, has been a versatile player on the Lions’ defensive line, both end and tackle.

Funeral arrangements for Rev. Fluellen will be announced by Mack Eppinger & Sons Funeral Home in Cartersville, according to the paper.
