Scioscia: Richards suffered ‘significant injury,’ will be re-evaluated Thursday

The Anaheim Angels were dealt a big blow Wednesday night when starting pitcher Garrett Richards was carted off the field after suffereing a left knee patellar injury.

Richard fell to the ground as he was covering first base, following a ground ball to the right side of the infield. After the game, manager Mike Scioscia told reporters that Richards suffered a "significant injury" and will be re-evaluated Thursday.

Richards was unable to walk off on his own, so a cart was brought to usher him off the field.

Richards likely will be out for a while, if not for the season, which leaves the Angels’ pitching staff in a jam. Just last week, starter Tyler Skaggs was lost last week to Tommy John surgery.

Entering Wednesday’s game, Richards was 13-4 with a 2.61 ERA.

We will have more information as it becomes available.
