Another four-star recruit verbally commits to MSU

Michigan State’s recruiting class has been lacking star power, but that is starting to change a little with a late push.

One day after four-star receiver Monty Madaris (Cincinnati) made a verbal commit to the Spartans so did four-star defensive back Demetrious Cox (Pittsburgh).

Cox (6-foot-1, 195 pounds), who also played quarterback in high school, was named the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Class AA Player of the Year for the state of Pennsylvania.

Cox made his announcement Monday night at a news conference. He also considered Ohio State, Wisconsin and Penn State.

Scout.com elevated MSU’s class from No. 37 to No. 33 nationally following the announcement.

The Spartans now have 18 verbal commitments, including four four-star prospects, 13 three-star and one two-star, according to Scout.com’s rankings.
