Meet DJ Donald Beavers Jr. is his given name, but he’s been going by DJ since he was little.
Favorite sport Beavers’ favorite sport growing up was baseball. He started playing at the age of seven, and didn’t even pick up football until the sixth grade. However, by the time he reached eighth grade he’d traded in his baseball spikes for football cleats.
Late night snack When it’s late, Beavers is reaching for a bag of Doritos, but not just any kind.
“Nacho cheese,” he said.
Favorite team Beavers grew up during USC’s most recent string of national titles under former head coach Pete Carroll, and he continues to love the Trojans.
“That’s my team right there,” he said. “The last time they won a national championship…I remember watching that game.”
Favorite movie The 2004 Peter Berg film “Friday Night Lights” is a favorite among high school football players, and for Beavers it’s no different.
“That’s one of my favorite movies of all time,” he said. “I just love the whole movie.”
Who would play you in a movie One of Beavers’ favorite TV shows is “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
“I love that show,” he said.
For that reason, if there was a movie made about him, he says Will Smith would play the role of DJ Beavers.
No. 6 “Since I’ve been in Pop Warner that’s been my number,” Beavers said. If you could accomplish something in any sport, what would it be? Beavers would put on the Purple and Gold of the Lakers and take matters into his own hands in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
“I’d probably (be) hitting a game-winning three (with) no time left in the NBA Finals for a championship,” he said. “Nothing’s better than that buzzer beater.”
There’s an opponent he’d like to face in the process.
“I don’t like the Miami Heat so I’d have to say against the Heat,” he said. Pregame ritual Before games, it’s usually Beavers and his music. He says music helps him “get my mind right.”
