10 things: Etiwanda point guard Jordan McLaughlin

One would think a championship can't get any tougher than having to go through Long Beach Poly and Mater Dei in consecutive games.
Such was the case for Etiwanda last season, led by then-junior point guard Jordan McLaughlin. Any repeat bid for the Eagles will be a lot steeper with them likely being one of the teams competing in the Open Division. The good news is with a player like McLaughlin, a USC commit, Etiwanda has a player that can take over games down the stretch.
For proof, check out the tape of the Nike Extravaganza earlier this month -- a 62-53 overtime win for Eagles over St. John Bosco.
In the meantime, here's 10 things you may not know about McLaughlin:
Coaches and teammates have been calling McLaughlin "J-Mac" since his freshman year.
"We had two Jordans on the team so we kept getting confused when they called us Jordan so then Coach came up with (J-Mac)," he said.

Brownies are always a hit with J-Mac.
"If I have a sweet tooth I'll get brownies," he said. "Brownies is my favorite thing to eat. If not whatever's in the cabinet."
McLaughlin is a huge fan of the Chicago Bulls. His loyalty to the team goes back.
"Since (the) MJ Era," McLaughlin explained referencing the Michael Jordan-led Bulls.
As a fan of the Bulls and a fan of Jordan, ideally his favorite movie would be "Space Jam."
Who would play you in a movie?
Sticking with the Bulls theme, if there were to be a movie made about his life, McLaughlin said he'd like Chicago's point guard to have the honor of playing him on the big screen.
"Derrick Rose because I like to model my game after his," McLaughlin explained.
When opposing teams see No. 11 walk onto the court for Etiwanda, they know they're going to be in for a long night. For McLaughlin, the No. 11 on his uniform is a number he's grown to love.
"I just had it since my freshman year," he said. "It's grown on me so I never really wanted to change it. I'll be able to wear it next year at USC (because) they're taking it out of retirement. I was blessed for that opportunity and just got to make the most of it."
The great Bill Sharman wore No. 11 at USC.
“I'll be able to wear it (No. 11) next year at USC (because) they're taking it out of retirement. I was blessed for that opportunity and just got to make the most of it.”
McLaughlin's pregame routine is pretty consistent and normally consists of a trip to the barber.
"(I) get a fresh, clean cut before the games and then grab a bite to eat three to four hours before game time," McLaughlin explained. "And then just throw on some tunes and get prepared for the game."
McLaughlin admits Kendrick Lamar is his favorite artist currently. He's also a fan of Ab-Soul, Drake, and Kanye West.
McLaughlin loves pork chops and anytime he can get it from one of his two favorite cooks, it's a bonus.
"Normally my mom makes it," he said. "I like my mom's food and my grandma can cook too. They got that nice touch."
