The Kings travel to Honda Center for the first of five games in the 2016 Freeway Faceoff series (coverage starts at 5p on FOX Sports West and Prime Ticket). Last year's series went to overtime or shootout in 4 of 5 games, here's a closer look at one of the league's best rivalries:
Why it's important to the Kings
The Kings are atop the Pacific Divsion so far in 2015-2016, but last season the failed to make the playoffs following a Cup-winning year. They also dropped 4 of 5 to the Ducks last season and the Ducks lead the overall regular season series 57 wins to the Kings' 54 wins. Could this be the year LA retakes the overall series lead?
Why the Kings will win
The Kings are one of the strongest NHL teams down the middle. LA goalie Jonathan Quick is third in the league in wins with 24 and newly re-upped center Anze Kopitar's 35 points are the most of any player on both teams.
Why its important to the Ducks
Anaheim looks to have turned a corner lately winning seven of their last 10. Sunday will conclude an 8-game homestand for the Ducks and the team sits just one point adrift a playoff spot in the Pacific Division. For the Ducks, a win againt the division's best would be a signal to the team that they're on the right track.
Why the Ducks will win
Corey Perry is a streaky scorer and he is heating up. The former 50-goal scorer has four goals in his last six games. The Ducks are 9-5 when Perry scores with only two of those losses in regulation.
