When Cody Garbrandt arrived on "The Ultimate Fighter" this season, he had no intentions of actually getting into a fight himself, but that’s nearly what happened in the latest episode when he got into a shoving match with Conor McGregor.
The altercation stemmed from some heavy-duty trash talk courtesy of McGregor aimed directly at UFC bantamweight champion TJ DIllashaw and eventually the other fighters at Team Alpha Male.
Garbrandt spoke to the TUF Talk podcast this week to explain what exactly happened when McGregor challenged anyone to step up and he gladly took the bait.
"So what happened was Conor started talking s–t about TJ and TJ literally just went back to the coffee room and we’re like, ‘Why wouldn’t you confront him about here?’ and (Andre) Fili said, ‘You want to sing that song when TJ’s gone. Why wouldn’t you say it to his face?’ Conor looks back and says, ‘Where’s that little twerp? I’ll say it to his face.’ I was kind of laughing about it," Garbrandt said.
"He said: ‘What are you going to do about it? What are you twerps going to do about it?’ He said it the second time, and I said, ‘I’ll do something about it.’ He stood up and he was like, ‘Do something,’ so I ended up shoving him."
Following the near bench-clearing brawl, Garbrandt said he eventually cleared the air with McGregor and when the show was finished, he actually appreciated what the outspoken Irishman brought to the sport.
