TUF 19: Hatred settled in the Octagon
JUN 12, 2014 1:30a ET
This episode finally shows what I felt was the biggest rivalry in the house. After winning our eliminations fights Van Buren asked a simple question and Fields called him out on in front of everyone...From that point on these two hated each other. With that type of emotion involved it will be interesting to see how the fight plays out.
Chris seems supremely confident with how his skill set matches up with Van Burens. Typically Fields fights at middleweight and is used to having a big reach advantage over his opponents. We'll get to see how Chris is going to deal with that type of adversity. Van Buren on the other hand is a natural light heavyweight and is going to be enjoying a nice size advantage going into this fight. Van Buren uses his length and size well so this is going to be a good match up on paper for Matt.
Fields trains at SBG in Dublin Ireland with Connor Mcgregor and Cathal Pendred while Van Buren trains with Alliance Martial arts with their stable of killers.. With the type of training these guys get on a daily basis this fight promises to be very technical and move through all the facets of MMA. Each guy is well rounded with a good skill set so it's going to come down to who wants it more.
The night before the fight it was a tail of two fighters. Fields is very reserved and calm but Van Buren on the other hand is true to the red teams character with being very outspoken. Those two mind sets alone don't match as you could see last week. Each fighter is ready so we should have an entertaining fight.
From the opening bell Van Buren closes the distance ands puts fields on the cage. Van Buren does a solid job of bullying Fields and keeping him pinned to the fence and fighting Matts game plan. Both guys land good strikes in the clinch and break apart for a second. Van Buren once again fades in and puts Fields on the fence. Van Buren is doing a great job using his size and doing what he needs to get the win. The fighters are reset. Fields lands some good techniques standing but Van Buren was once again able to close the distance and clinch. Fields tries for his own takedown but is reversed and ends up on the bottom.
Round two was the same as the first. Van Buren closed the distance put Fields on the cage and secured a takedown. They break and Fields is able to land some strikes and secure a takedown of his own. The two battle back to their feet and exchange. Fields lands a punch that seemed to hurt Van Buren. Fields blitzes but is taken down for his trouble. Van Buren does a good job keeping fields down and landing great ground and pound until 1 minute left where fields fights back to his fight only to be taken down once again. Seems at this point Van Buren is controlling the fight dominantly. I don't see this going another round.
Van Buren did a great job and smothering the better striker and fatiguing him to the point where there wasn't any fight left in him. When Fields was able to separate for a second Van Buren just closed the distance and shut Fields game down almost instantly.
