Thiago Alves is finally ready to make his return. The former UFC welterweight top contender, who has been out of action for nearly two years due to various injuries, has agreed to face Seth Baczynski at the April UFC on FOX event, FOX Sports has learned.
In the past few years, Alves has suffered injuries including a torn pectoral muscle, torn biceps muscle, and torn knee ligaments, all of which required separate surgeries.
The UFC confirmed the matchup to FOX Sports on Thursday.
Alves' last bout came in March 2012 when he lost to Martin Kampmann in main event of a show held in Australia. Since then he's been forced to withdraw from two different bouts with injuries. Alves (19-9), who lost in a 2010 bid to defeat George St-Pierre, is still just 30 years old.
Baczynski (19-10) recently snapped a two-fight losing streak with a unanimous decision over Neil Magny at the UFC Fight For the Troops 3 event. Prior to that, he'd dropped fights to Brian Melancon and Mike Pierce.
FOX UFC Saturday takes place at Orlando's Amway Center and features heavyweights Travis Browne and Fabricio Werdum in a No. 1 contender's bout that will serve as the main event.
