Shields: Submission win would be ideal

With both Demian Maia and Jake Shields weighing in at 171 pounds on Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday night’s main event is officially set to go.

Following the weigh-ins, Shields spoke with Fox Sports’ Heidi Androl about making the trip from the Bay Area to Sao Paulo, Brazil for this contest, and details the differences between traditional Brazilian jiu-jitsu and American jiu-jitsu, the style of grappling he created and employs inside the cage.

The 34-year-old former Strikeforce middleweight champion also spoke highly of his opponent, outlining the numerous challenges Maia presents in the cage. He also explained that if everything goes according to Hoyle, he’d like to make history tomorrow night.
