Rony Jason vs. Steven Siler set for March 23 event in Brazil
When we last saw Rony Jason, he was putting his arm through a plexiglass wall in a post-fight incident that ripped up his arm and required 35 stitches. With that nightmare behind him, the Brazilian fighter looks to brighter days in the form of a date against American Steven Siler.
The matchup, announced by Siler himself early Tuesday morning, will take place on March 23. The event itself is not yet officially announced but is expected to emanate from Ginasio Nelio Dias in Natal, Brazil. It will mark the UFC’s first visit to the city, which is on Brazil’s east coast.
The 29-year-old Jason (13-4) suffered his first Octagon defeat last time out, losing via head-kick knockout to Jeremy Stephens at a UFC Fight Night event last November. The loss snapped an eight-fight win streak that dated back to his pre-UFC days, and in his frustration, Jason smashed a backstage wall with his elbow. Multiple cuts resulted, and he had to be immediately transported to a hospital to be sewn up.
Now healed, he won’t be the only one looking to rebound from a tough night. Siler is also coming off a defeat, a unanimous decision at the hands of Dennis Bermudez, also in last November.
The 26-year-old Siler is 23-11 overall and has gone 5-2 in seven UFC bouts.
