Kelvin Gastelum vs. Rick Story booked at UFC 171 in Dallas
Undefeated Ultimate Fighter 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum wanted to get a tough test in the welterweight division and he will get his wish at UFC 171 when he takes on veteran fighter Rick Story at the upcoming card in Dallas.
UFC officials announced the new bout taking place on March 15 late Friday evening.
Gastelum (7-0) is considered one of the most promising prospects to come out of The Ultimate Fighter in several seasons. A strong wrestler with powerful hands, Gastelum competed on the reality show as a middleweight, but quickly made the move down to 170 pounds where he dispatched of Brian Melancon in his welterweight debut.
Following that fight, Gastelum was expected to return in December before a knee injury forced him to sit out the remainder of 2013. Now the 22-year old fighter will get back in action with a fight he requested.
Rick Story (16-7) is a tough challenger for anyone in the welterweight division, which may be the reason why Gastelum asked for the fight in the first place. Story has taken on some of the best fighters in the division and holds a win over top-rated contender Johny Hendricks from 2010.
Now, Story will look to further his own career by defeating Gastelum at the upcoming UFC 171 card in Dallas.
The UFC has yet to announce the bout order for the card -- where Gastelum vs. Story will fall on the card remains to be seen.
