Jon Jones’ next title defense is set just a few weeks after he
was originally scheduled to get back in action.
The UFC’s reigning and defending light heavyweight champion will
return on March 15 at UFC 171 in Dallas, Texas where he’ll face top
ranked contender Glover Teixeira.
UFC president Dana White confirmed the news via UFC Tonight on
Jones has been out of action since September when he went to war
for five full rounds against Alexander Gustafsson in one of the
best fights of 2013. Jones was originally expected to return in
February, but some lingering injuries forced the champion to sit
out for the rest of 2013 to rest his aching body.
Given the extra time off, Jones will be ready to get back in
camp starting in January for his newly announced bout on March 15
The upcoming UFC 171 card is expected to take place at the
American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas on March 15 with more
fights being added in the coming weeks. It will mark the UFC’s
return to Dallas for the first time in over three years since UFC
103 took place there in September 2009 pitting Rich Franklin
against Vitor Belfort in the main event.
