Stipe Miocic has designs on a pair of heavy hitters next up.
Miocic, who is recovering from herniated discs in his back, is hoping to fight either Junior dos Santos or Alistair Overeem next, his manager Greg Kalikas tells UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani.
Miocic (12-1) actually was injured going into his fight with Fabio Maldonado last month at UFC Fight Night in Sao Paulo. There was pain, but the heavyweight contender didn’t want to pull out, especially after dos Santos was forced to withdraw weeks earlier due to a broken hand.
There were talks of Miocic possibly meeting Overeem at UFC Fight Night in Connecticut on Sept. 5, but Miocic won't be ready. He needs another four to six weeks before he's cleared.
The athletic Ohio native ended up dispatching Maldonado via TKO in just 35 seconds. He's ranked No. 6 in the official heavyweight contender top 15, while dos Santos is No. 2 and Overeem is No. 7.
