Despite his pleas and Twitter call outs of fellow top 10 welterweight Matt Brown, Hector Lombard will instead draw Dong Hyun Kim for his next fight scheduled in August.
According to a report via UFC Tonight, the promotion is currently working on scheduling Lombard vs. Kim for the upcoming UFC Fight Night card in Macau, China on August 23.
For the past couple of weeks, Lombard has focused a social networking campaign aimed at landing a fight with Brown following his TKO win over Erick Silva in Cincinnati. Brown has been discussed as a possible title contender, and Lombard took exception to his ranking while saying he was ‘not impress’ with the Ohio native’s performances.
Regardless of Lombard’s wishes, the UFC opted to go in another direction, pitting him against Kim following the Korean putting together back-to-back wins via knockout.
Best known for his grappling and wrestling skills, Kim has turned the corner lately by finishing both Erick Silva and John Hathaway with highlight reel knockouts, with each fight earning him a bonus at the end of the night.
Now Kim will get his toughest test to date when he faces Lombard in a pivotal matchup in the UFC welterweight division.
The upcoming UFC Fight Night card in Macau will take place on August 23, but rumors have circled that despite the high profile nature of Lombard vs. Kim there still may be an even bigger main event on the horizon.
UFC officials have yet to comment, but more bouts are expected to be announced for their return to China in the coming weeks.
