Green takes Healy fight on Dec 14

Bobby Green will step into the open

UFC

on FOX 9 spot opposite Pat Healy, FOX Sports has learned.

Green is replacing Jamie Varner, who was

target="_blank">forced to withdraw on Monday after tearing his

rotator cuff while sparring. A UFC official confirmed the

Green-Healy pairing. The 27-year-old Green is less than a week

removed from his controversial TKO win over James Krause at UFC

Fight for the Troops 3.

In the win, Green landed a kick that was right at the border of

being considered a low blow. However, referee John McCarthy

declared it legal, giving him a victory.

Prior to that, he had choked out Jacob Volkmann in his UFC debut

back in February.

Green is 21-5 all-time and riding a six-fight win streak.

Meanwhile, Healy will still be hunting his first Octagon win.

Although he got the judges’ nod on the scorecards after

fighting Jim Miller at UFC 159, he failed a drug test for marijuana

and had the result overturned to a no contest. He returned at

September’s UFC 165 and lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov via

unanimous decision.

UFC on FOX 9 takes place from Sleep Train Arena in

Sacramento.

In the headliner, Demetrious Johnson will face Joseph Benavidez

in a UFC flyweight championship rematch. The event also includes

bantamweight contenders Urijah Faber vs. Michael McDonald, as well

as a likely Fight of the Year contender in Carlos Condit vs. Matt

Brown.
