UFC Fight Night on FOX Sports 1 in Boston added two new explosive fights Wednesday. Middleweight knockout artists Costas Philippou and Uriah Hall will throw down and lightweight contender Jorge Masvidal meets Norman Parke on Jan. 18 at TD Garden, the UFC confirmed. Newsday was the first to report the Philippou-Hall bout Wednesday evening.
Philippou (13-4, 1 NC), one of the best boxers in the middleweight division, is coming off a knockout victory over Lorenz Larkin in May. The 34-year-old owns a solid 6-3 record in the UFC and is currently ranked No. 12 among 185-pound contenders. The 29-year-old Hall (9-4) has won two straight and is known for his thunderous knockouts from The Ultimate Fighter 17.
The two have actually fought before for the Ring of Combat organization in New Jersey. It is a local battle. Philippou lives on Long Island in New York and Uriah Hall grew up in nearby Queens.
Masvidal (28-8) has won three straight and is coming off a complete unanimous decision win over James Krause last month at UFC 178. The 29-year-old is ranked No. 13 among lightweight contenders. Parke (20-2-1) has not lost in four years, unbeaten in his last 10 fights. The 27-year-old Northern Ireland native knocked out Naoyuki Kotano in his last bout back in July.
UFC Fight Night on FOX Sports 1 is headlined by a featherweight contender bout between Conor McGregor and Dennis Siver. The UFC just announced the co-main event — Benson Henderson vs. Eddie Alvarez — on Wednesday. The card will air following the NFC Championship game on FOX.
