Brandon Thatch will meet John Howard in July at UFC 189. The news was broken by UFC Tonight on Wednesday.

Both welterweights are coming off losses. Thatch last fought in February against former lightweight champion Benson Henderson.

Early on, Thatch looked on his way to beating up Henderson, who had stepped up in weight on short notice as a replacement opponent. Eventually, however, Henderson wore Thatch down with his grappling, and finished the 29-year-old with a rear naked choke in the fourth round.

Prior to that loss, Thatch had won 10 straight bouts going back to 2009. He’ll have a chance to get back in the win column against Howard, who has lost three straight fights.

"Doomsday" last competed in January and lost via TKO to Lorenz Larkin in Boston. Before his current losing streak, Howard had won four straight.

UFC 189 is scheduled to be headlined by a featherweight world title bout between champion Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor.
