Boxer Victor Ortiz says '€˜amazing' Rousey held her own training with him

Ortiz, a well-known boxer, got a chance to train with UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey while the two were filming 'The Expendables III'€ together. He came away pretty impressed.

Think Rousey's boxing isn't top notch? Think again.

Victor Ortiz got the chance to train with Ronda Rousey while the two were filming “The Expendables III” together in Bulgaria. To say he was impressed would be an understatement.

“She’s dangerous,” Ortiz told FOX Sports. “I got her in the ring with me a couple times. But I knew better than to go into deep waters with a person of her level of fighting.”

Rousey, an Olympic bronze medalist in judo, is a whiz on the ground, something the boxer is not accustomed to. He knew better than to try to grapple with her once things got to the canvas – or else he might have fallen victim to her trademark armbar.

“One time she took me down, I was like, ‘Timeout, timeout!’” Ortiz said with a laugh.

She knows how to fight upstairs and on the floor. She’s just amazing in all aspects.

Ortiz said he and Rousey trained together just about every day while they were overseas. The former “Dancing With The Stars” contestant will try to get back on track against Luis Collazzo on Jan. 31 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn (live on FOX Sports 1). He’s coming off a pair of losses, including one to Floyd Mayweather.

Ortiz, 26, wanted to attend Rousey’s fight with Miesha Tate at UFC 168 on Dec. 28, but was unable to because of training. He’s going to attempt to make her next fight Feb. 22 at UFC 170 against Sara McMann, but right now he’s not thinking of anything past his bout against Collazzo.

The former WBC welterweight titleholder called Rousey an “amazing champ” and a “sweetheart.” And he put to rest critics who say boxing is one of her weak points.

“She knows how to fight upstairs and on the floor,” Ortiz said. “She’s just amazing in all aspects.”
