After a video surfaced of Nick Diaz taunting Johny Hendricks at the UFC 171 weigh-ins, we should have figured that we had not seen the last of Stockton’s finest. As such, when Hendricks defeated Robbie Lawler via unanimous decision in one of the year’s greatest fights, the name on everyone’s tongues was that of a retired fighter who has not won a fight since 2011, naturally.
In an interview with Sportsnet’s Showdown Joe Saturday night, Diaz announced his decision to unretire now that GSP is gone (not outright, but come on) and called out the newly-crowned champion via a series of mainly incomprehensible questions. Classic Diaz!
“Maybe [UFC] want me to fight Johny Hendricks,” said Diaz. “Take an a** whooping. Right to your face, bro. Worse than tonight, because you got your a** whooped all four rounds. I seen it. I seen your little amateur style. I’m ready to fight. I’m ready to fight the right fight.”
“Everybody’s going to make more money. Fans get to see what they want to see. You want to see people get tapped out or knocked out? You want to see a real fight? You want to see drama queens act drama? Want to see real motherf***ers act real?” posited Diaz to the stupefied Joe.
For a guy who at times seems shockingly unaware of his place in the world or how that world works, Diaz sure does know what MMA fans want. I’ll give his crazy ass that much.
Of course, MMA fans are a smart bunch, and we wouldn’t give into Diaz’s ludicrous demands just because he happens to be an intriguing individual, right?
Goddamn it. This is why we can’t have nice things, you guys.
