Maybe we’ll soon see this guy exclusively on Fight Pass.
UFC president Dana White gave praise this weekend to a gas station attendant who thwarted a robbery using skills he picked up training in mixed martial arts.
A group of men tried to rob Mayura Dissanyake’s friend right in front of Dissanayake’s work place, a Fuel Depot in Houston, Texas. That was a terrible mistake, reports KPRC (h/t Jalopnik). Dissanayake, who claims to be a five-time Sri Lankan MMA national champion, went all Cro Cop on one guy, crushing him with left head kicks. He got his licks in on on some of the others, too.
The would-be criminals fled — quickly. The surveillance video is fantastic.
TMZ caught up with White and asked him about the incident. White said: "I love it."
"Mixed martial arts is the new martial art that people are taking all over the world," White said. "Although I don’t recommend crime fighting … but dirtbags should beware."
Dissanayake’s co-worker was returning to the station from the bank and had just parked. The men jumped out of an SUV and tried to grab the bank bag.
"The first guy I saw, I just kicked him in the face," he said. "Then I punched the other guy."
Pretty decent form, too. One of the alleged crooks was left behind and stumbled to the ground. Dissanayake went into PRIDE mode and rained down some soccer kicks.
That was some violent street justice. Renzo Gracie would be proud.
Dissanayake is 2-1 as a pro MMA fighter, according to Sherdog, but has not fought since 2012. This might be the opportune time to get back in, though he won’t be fighting punks like this in a real fight.
Dissanayake told TMZ on Monday that he wants nothing more than to fight in the UFC.
"I want to make it to the UFC," he said. "That is my dream … the whole reason I moved to the states."
