'Static' debut features look back at Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen rivalry
As far as we can tell, the first instance of Chael Sonnen publicly calling out Anderson Silva came in Dec. 2008, just before Sonnen actually returned for his second tour of duty in the UFC. But from that point forward, it became a regular occurrence, and the start of a storied rivalry.
It's also the subject of a new web series titled "Static," produced by renowned MMA manager Ed Soares and distributed on Jay Z's Life + Times Digital platform. The episode featuring Sonnen and Silva's rivalry debuted Monday, and will be the first of four episodes that will all follow some of the heated MMA feuds of recent time.
Eventually, the series may grow to include rivalries in other sports, but the next episodes of "Static" include Nick Diaz vs. Jason "Mayhem" Miller, Urijah Faber vs. Dominick Cruz and Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate.
The Sonnen-Silva episode, which is narrated by boxing great Roy Jones, Jr., includes the observations of both headliners, as well as other notables including Dan Henderson, Michael Bisping, Faber and others.
