Ronda Rousey to appear on 'American Idol' -- and she didn't know it
Ronda Rousey is going to be on "American Idol" and she didn’t even know it.
UFC president Dana White announced the news to reporters -- and Rousey herself -- during a luncheon to promote UFC 173 on Wednesday in Los Angeles.
"What?!" Rousey said. "You're lying. No way."
White explained that the UFC wanted to do some kind of crossover with "American Idol" and show producers said they'd be in -- as long as having Rousey on would be part of the deal. White said he told them "she'll be there." Rousey, the UFC women's bantamweight champion, will be on the show next Wednesday.
Rousey wasn't expected to be at the luncheon with White, UFC 173 headliner T.J. Dillashaw and co-headliners Jake Ellenberger and Robbie Lawler. She said she heard White was in town, so she came to meet with him. Good thing she did, otherwise who knows when she would have gotten the "American Idol" news.
White used the "Idol" producers wanting Rousey as further illustration of how popular she has gotten. Rousey will make her silver screen debut in August when "The Expendables 3" opens and she just finished shooting "Entourage."
Rousey, 27, said on The Fighter & The Kid podcast this week that if she had to choose, though, she would remain a fighter, because that's where all of her opportunities have come from.
That includes this latest one with "American Idol." We're just not too sure about her singing. If Rousey armbars Ryan Seacrest, though, that would be priceless.
