Anthony Pettis receives certificate of achievement from Governor of Wisconsin
UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis has a shiny gold belt at home recognizing him as the best 155-pound fighter on the planet, and now he has a certificate of achievement from his home state of Wisconsin to hang on his mantle as well.
Pettis was recognized for his achievements on Monday by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker at his office in Madison, Wisconsin.
A life long resident of Milwaukee, Pettis has proudly represented his home state for his entire professional career and he lived out his dream to capture the belt when he defeated Benson Henderson at UFC 164, which happened to take place at the Bradley Center in Wisconsin.
The Governor presented him with a certificate of achievement for his work in the UFC as well as his contributions to the community and through charities in the area as well.
'It's great to see people from Wisconsin living out their dreams,' Governor Walker said on Monday. 'Anthony Pettis's strong work ethic and tenacity made him a champion, and I am pleased to congratulate him on his championship.'
Pettis, who is currently nursing an ailing knee while awaiting surgery in December, was happy to receive such recognition from his home state.
'It's an incredible honor to be recognized by Governor Walker and the state of Wisconsin,' Pettis said. 'To win the UFC title here was a dream come true. I am proud to call Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin home and look forward to defending my title again here in the future.
