Rafael Nadal is mixing it up in the offseason. Just weeks shy of the 2017 ATP World Tour, the Spaniard adds Carlos Moya to his coaching team.

Rafael Nadal adds fellow Spaniard and former player Carlos Moya to his coaching team.

The move comes just weeks shy of the season’s early tournaments. Nadal is looking to make a strong comeback in 2017 after dealing with lingering injuries throughout the 2016 ATP World Tour.

Nadal assured fans that the move to add former world No. 1 Moya to the team will not impact Toni Nadal and Francis Roig’s roles. The three will work together.

Moya was recently working with tennis star Milos Raonic. The Canadian experienced what may very well be the best season of his career thus far. Deciding to part ways in November, the two said that the separation will not affect their friendship. Raonic appeared in the 2016 Wimbledon finals.

Rafael Nadal adding Moya to the mix is a sign that he is serious about 2017.

The 30-year-old Nadal must silence critics this season. The 14-time Grand Slam winner has yet to win a major tournament since 2014. Minor injuries have impacted his career in recent years, making it hard for the Spaniard to find a rhythm on the court.

2017 is an important year for Nadal.

He will have to contend with the likes of new world No. 1 Andy Murray and Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic. Plenty of young players round out a competitive field of players for the 2017 ATP World Tour. The early months of the season will be critical for Nadal to find his groove and return to old form.
