Li Na shows off sense of humor after Australian Open win
Li Na finally broke through at the Australian Open on Saturday, winning the tournament for the first time in three trips to the final. If that wasn't enough to make you a fan, check out the highlights from her classic post-match speech on the court.
She started with a gracious congratulations to Dominika Cibulkova, whom she beat 7-6 (3), 6-0 to win the title. Then, she turned her attention to her camp.
"Now, I have to thank my team. Max. Agent. Makes me rich. Thanks a lot."
The reaction drew big laughs from the crowd and the man in question -- noted tennis agent Max Eisenbud, who was in Li's box.
Li then thanked her physio and her coach, Carlos Rodriguez, before setting her comedic sights on her husband, Jiang Shan.
"OK, now, of course. My husband. You are famous in China."
More big laughs.
"So thanks for him (giving) up everything, just traveling with me to be my hitting partner, to fix the drinks and fix the rackets. He does a lot of jobs."
"So thanks a lot. You're a nice guy."
By now the crowd at Rod Laver Arena was rolling. But she had one more for good measure.
"And also, you are so lucky to find me."
Game, set and match, indeed. Well done, Li.
She wrapped it up by thanking sponsors and the tournament before directing one last quip at the fans.
"I know you guys think I talk too much, but last thing. Thanks for the crowd for coming to support us."
Li also won the French Open in 2011.
