Jo-Wilfried Tsonga rode a big serve to reach the Open 13 semifinals, serving 19 aces Friday in a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10) victory over Bernard Tomic of Australia.

Tomic did not go easily against the third-seeded Frenchman, saving eight of nine break-points he faced.

Tsonga next faces the winner of Friday's quarterfinal between defending champion Juan Martin del Potro and sixth-seeded Gilles Simon.

Dmitry Tursunov of Russia also advanced to the semis, beating Gilles Muller of Luxembourg 7-6 (7), 1-6, 7-5. Tursunov, a semifinalist at the tournament two years ago, withstood 27 aces from Muller and a second-set thrashing in which he dropped serve three times.

His semifinal opponent will be top-seeded Tomas Berdych or seventh-seeded Jerzy Janowicz.
