Alexander Peya and Julian Knowle kept Austria's hopes alive against Kazakhstan by winning Saturday's doubles to reduce the hosts' lead to 2-1 in their Davis Cup first-round series.

The duo beat Andrey Golubev and Yuriy Schukin 7-6 (5), 6-3, 7-6 (3) to make sure the series will be decided in Sunday's reverse singles.

Golubev and Evgeny Korolev of Kazakhstan surprised their higher-ranked Austrian opponents, Andreas Haider-Maurer and Jurgen Melzer, by winning both of Friday's opening singles in straight sets.

Golubev is set to play Melzer in Sunday's first match, before Korolev takes on Haider-Maurer.
