FOX Sports Supports is proud to team up with Homes For Our Troops, an organization committed to building and donating specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives. It is stories like Adam’s and others that inspire us each and every day as we support the HFOT mission of “rebuilding lives.”
In July of 2005, Marine Sergeant Adam Kisielewski deployed to Iraq as an infantry squad leader and operated outside of Camp Fallujah, Iraq. In Al Karmah (a small city west of Fallujah), Kisielewski was severely injured on a patrol after encountering an improvised explosive device blast inside a school known for frequent enemy activity.
Kisielewski’s wounds required the amputation of his left arm at the shoulder and his right leg four inches below his knee. Kisielewski’s left leg was also badly damaged in the blast and required three months of continuous limb salvage surgeries for doctors to determine they could save his limb. Kisielewski also endured various other surgeries to his stomach and ears. Kisielewski received care at National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. After 14 months of recovery, Sergeant Kisielewski medically retired from the US Marine Corps in October 2006.
Homes For Our Troops was proud to award Adam and his family with their home, on July 16, 2011. Since then, Adam has earned his pilot’s license, started motorcycle riding, and will be pursuing his master’s in policy at Georgetown University. Most importantly, he has no limitations within his home, allowing him to focus on his family. “Homes For Our Troops has allowed me to pursue my passion and goals. This home has provided me a place of no boundaries,” he says.
