MotoGP: Bradl reflects on disastrous home Grand Prix in Germany

MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl got off to a lightning start in the eni Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, but a setup gamble resulted in no points.

Bradl was the only rider to start from the front three rows as rain showers briefly before the start saw the riders line up with wets on the grid. However, Bradl and his LCR team gambled by placing slicks on the grid. 14 riders chose to swap to their dry bikes after the Warm Up lap, and thus start from pitlane.

Stefan Bradl secured third in Q2 at the German Grand Prix and admits he is ready to fight for a win at his home race.

Bradl brought the home fans to their feet as he helped to secure a complete Honda lock out of the front row. The German has looked strong all weekend and has had previous success in the 125cc and Moto2 classes at his home track, with podiums in each.

Bradl briefly led qualifying, but was knocked down the order by the factory pair of and . Bradl’s best time of 1:21.340s was just 0.403s slower than Marquez’s record-breaking pole lap.

MotoGP: Marquez Smashes Track Record En Route To Pole At German GP

Marc Marquez notched a new best pole lap in the Q2 session at the German Grand Prix, with and also on the front row – Pedrosa setting a fast lap before a crash.

A 1:20.937 effort from Marquez gave him pole by just under 0.3s from Repsol Honda colleague Pedrosa who went down at Turn 1 with three minutes remaining. The rapid lap time for Marquez broke Casey Stoner’s six-year old best pole lap record of 1:21.067 from 2008.

The home fans were delighted with Bradl registering a 1:21.340 lap, as the German qualified third having initially been on provisional pole five minutes into the session.

- is the first rider to start from pole at six or more successive MotoGP races since Casey Stoner in 2008 riding a Ducati. If Marquez wins the race it will be the first time that a rider has won five or more successive premier-class races from pole since Mick Doohan in 1997, on a Honda.

- Pol Espargaro starts from second place on the grid in just his fifth race in the MotoGP class, the best qualifying result by a satellite Yamaha rider since Cal Crutchlow was on pole at Brno last year.
